From introduction:
“The present volume contains some of the papers, presented during the conference Social Work with adults in the EU . The publication itself is a result of a three-way cooperative venture, led by Opole University. It brings together perspectives from Opole University, its partner universities in central Europe and a variety of social work provier agencies within the Leonardo da Vinci programme coordinated by Przemysław Kaniok, a research worker of the Institute of Pedagogical Sciences of Opole University. The programme operated from 2006-2008, including seven agencies: St Christopher’s Hospice (London), Princess Alice Hospice (Esher), British Association of Social Workers (London), Garth Care Home (Kington), Trinity Hospice (London), The Blue Cross Centre (Wuppertal) and the Kofoeds School (Copenhagen).
Managers of the social service provision where the practice placements were held wrote papers offering information about and reflection on the social care systems in their setting and country. Researchers from universities with which Opole University has had cooperation agreements over many years, also contributed to the knowledge and understanding about social care as it is developing particularly in mid-Europe in this publication. Our colleagues of the Catholic University of Ružomberok and the Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica (Slovak Republic), the University of Hradec Králové (Czech Republic) contributed addiotnal perspectives on a variety of social service systems for adults. And finally, some of the papers were written in collaboration with employees of the Opole Municipal Family Aid Centre through their research cooperation with Opole University.”
